Friendship - Zodiac Friends : Gemini

The social butterfly of the Zodiac has lots of friends. In fact, the Twins should have twice as many as any other Sign. One side of a Gemini will want to go hang-gliding and run around outside, while the other is keen on sitting cozily at home and playing a board game. Their friends need to be as diverse as they are in order to keep up, or they just need to know when to let Gemini go free. The Twins can bond well with lots of different kinds of groups. If they get bored with one set of people, they always have a few more groups that will be more interesting -- for awhile. Gemini is a sociable creature who enjoys having friends. If you can match their pace and mercurial temperament, you and your friend will have a blast. The best way to develop a bond with a Gemini is to make an intellectual connection. Interested in exploring anything at all? Take along your Gemini pal and enjoy the new perspective they give to even the most ordinary situations. If you can match wits with this one, they'll respect your intellect and work to develop this worthwhile friendship.

Friendship Gifts

Friendship is a comforting hug, shared laughter or simply being there at the right time – small things that go a long way in building up a relationship, particularly with friends. Very often, maybe just out of habit, we tend to take our friendships for granted. Like I said, it is not always intentional but more due to the fact that we always see them around when we need them. This is specially true in cases of childhood friendships. It's more like... 'they are just a call away'!I often feel that we would do a lot better if we simply grow up with our friends with our eyes and ears than with the mouth – what I mean is, talking is always not a necessity. Sometimes little tokens of appreciation also make a good impact. Like the other day, I was going through few of my old treasures – friendship gifts that I have received over the years. A lot of memories are associated with each of them and they all are unique and wonderful in their own ways. They each are their own 'time capsules'. And a great way to shop for friends is on the Internet at your own leisure where you can think about what will suit best. Here's a couple of unique gift ideas that I found...
'Never Far Away' Bracelet – What are friendships without friendship bracelets! They're fun and very symbolic – and the best are not just the cloth ones but made of Sterling Silver – something your children can enjoy too (ok did I just say that? lol) You can inscribe words on them and they'll never fade!
A True Friend Sign – Something that a friend might need as a house warming gift or something to remember you by. It's a plaque with your favorite friendship quote. You can get it pretty easily and if you can't find one you can always have it custom made.
Poem About Best Friends – Another stuff you can hang on the wall is a poem about best friends, better yet, write the poem yourself, decorate it and frame it. -- Voilà you got a gift!
Friendship Definition Glass Block – If plaques are meant for walls then, this one can be on a desk of a dorm room or an office. They're poems or statements that you can put on a glass block. They can be very elegant and can add to the décor of the room.
Friends personalized Cartoon – Do you ever got to fairs with your friends? You can take sketches or caricatures of yourselves and forever you can keep that memory.

Remember Your First Kiss

Do you remember your first kiss? Of course you do! Don't lie. I had mine in Junior High -- you know in 8th Grade when you're in 'senior year' and you're supposed to have a 'boyfriend'? Well those were fun days. Where I Had My First Kiss is a site I found where they're mapping first kisses around the world. It's kinda like a neat message boards with all the accounts of first kisses. It's Pretty neat idea.

Delirious Friends of the Celebrity World

If you haven't seen Delirious starring Steve Buscemi you should definitely watch. It's directed by Tom DiCillo the director of Living in Oblivion (also starring Steve Buscemi). I think Tom DiCillo is just continuing to explore the 'celebrity culture' theme. He does it beautifully in Delirious -- depicting the fact that everyone is connected to the food chain. One thing I liked about the movie is the underlying theme of friendship -- weird and quirky. People bond almost in an instant and loose friends just as easily. In the nether world of celebrities the right time in the right place counts just like Toby (played by Michael Pitt) learns. One wrong move and you're gone. Such is the ups and downs of celebrity friendships portrayed in a satirical movie.

Friendships of a Genius

Did you know that today is Einstein's birthday? If he lived he would be 128 years old. He was a genius. Period – there's nothing else that is needed to be said about him. He contributed a lot of stuff to theoretical physics and helped the field grow and today because of him we understand our universe better than we did before. But that is all beside the point.
Take a moment and think about it. If you look at Einstein's life, it's filled with catalyst friends that move him forward to the next level. When Albert Einstein was about ten a family friend, Max Talmud introduced him to key science and philosophy texts from authors like Kant and Euclid. Soon Einstein was doing calculus! Einstein's biggest support was a friend Mileva Marić (the only woman studying mathematics at the institute Einstein was in – ETH) and later they became romantic partners.

It was also another friend Michele Besso introduced him to the works of Ernst Mach – which allowed him to publish a paper in Annalen der Physik entitled "Folgerungen aus den Capillaritätserscheinungen" ("Consequences of the observations of capillarity phenomena"), on the capillary forces of a straw. In this paper his quest for a unified physical law becomes apparent, which he followed throughout his life. As a cause of this slowly the academic community considered him as "the best sounding board in Europe" for physical ideas.
The bottom line is, he wouldn't have made it without his friends. He wouldn't be known as Einstein the genius today. What about you? Your friends? Who pushes you the most? Who's there for you? Why don't you take a pause and appreciate those friendships? Here's a couple of ecards to help you along --

Friendships – Running Away and Ditching them!

Get rid of friendships?!!! I couldn't believe it, and neither will you guys. Just after writing about how to maintain friendships in my last post, I saw this cool article in The Guardian. It gives us to think about – a departure from what we try to do in our lives -- maintain friends!Friendships, according to the results of the survey found that friendships among those below 30 survive to about five years or less. Now that's some food for thought! Tim Dowling gives us an idea of when certain friendships have just gotta go! He wrote everything friendship possible from cell mates to vicars and people you meet on the street.

Getting together with friends

We're so busy these days that sometimes we forget to take time off for our friends. And sometimes our friendships just dwindle and die. We move apart. We get to college, we're busy with our careers, we get married, have kids and friends just go away further. Some times we're so lost it's like the lyrics from the song of The Fray “Where did I go wrong?”

Don't let your friendship dwindle away just get together, just say hi, just get together – here's a couple of ecards that you can use just to email your friends to start the conversation flowing again...

Frienships for Goodwill and World Peace

How about this idea for friendship – global goodwill and world peace through friendship. Neat right? That's what Friendship Force International is all about. Their total aim is to have world peace through the world of friends and a global friendship network.

It was established in 1977 with the support and endorsement of President Jimmy Carter and has grown into a friendship network of diverse people and cultures in more than 60 countries. The Friednship Force International was even nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992.

Friend Ships in Action

Friend Ships define the old saying of "a friend in need is a friend indeed." It's an organization that's made up of ships which are ready for disaster releif and humanitarian aid.
Friend Ships grew from Park West Children's Fund in 1983. The charity sponsored special programs for battered, abused and handicapped children. In 1985 Park West got MV Spirit -- a 5000 Ocean going cargo ship and started its international missions of mercy. It first distributed food for the needy people in the US and spread worldwide.

Just Friends or Best Friends?

I came upon this really nice chain email that makes you really think of what your friends do and what your best friends do. I don't know who started all this but if you do know please let me know. And since I came upon it for free, you can go ahead and pass it along to friends.

Making New Friends!

So how's your friendship week going? Mine is just swell. I've realized recently that humans are really social beings and we need to be in groups or cliques. (I've touched on this topic previously in Friendships through the ages.
But how are we when we are making new friends? A lot of people move around with their families from time to time and their kids have to adjust. I've never faced that situation. I've been lucky enough to have a cool set of steady friends, until last semester when I joined college. I moved out of my home town so naturally forced to make new friends in college and in the dorm. Thinking about International friendship week made me think about all this. How are you with making new friends? Do you always stick to an old group or are you a social butterfly like me? Check this cool quiz.

Sweet anger

Sweet anger fills my veins.I can feel it pulsing through me. So powerful and yet slightly over-powering, intoxicating.I just met up with my ex. Who i haven't seen for a while. We hung out for 9 hours happily, but then he wanted to spend the night sleeping on my couch. And then I had to seem like the cow to say 'no that's not cool'...Got me thinking...Friendship / Lovers... what separates the divide. Some 'lovers' cease to sleep with each other yet call each other lovers. Some friends cross boundaries, not necessarily sexual but definately intimate. What actually defines and bounds these states of interaction? What is it that exists between the states of being either friends or lovers? Some grey space there... And so it comes down to intimacy... and what a slippery fish that is. A fish with moveable boundaries. Hard call... how does one draw that line in the sand with an ex that one loves still.... loves in a deep heart felt person-to-person way - not a i wish i was still with that dude way. And it hurts each time I flex that boundary - again and again. Like an electric fence one keeps stupidly running into... again and again... and again i'm sure.Sheesh... where's the handbook?

Can Friends Be Your Love Too

I have been thinking and that too a lot. I don't know what's got into me lately – there is something in the air that is making me think... and I finally decided to let it out! Yes, I am talking about Valentine's Day. There is just over a week and a half left for 'Love Day', and wherever I go, there is a sense of suppressed excitement in the air. It's like something has to be done, before it's too late.
I guess, I have been rambling but where love is concerned, the distinction between friends also tend to get blurred. Like I mentioned a couple of posts back - what is actually the difference between love and friendship, and if we have to answer this question, we can no way avoid raising the issue of man-women relationships. Other that of a spouse and a lover, can a platonic friendship exist between a man and a woman. If it can, then upto what level, and upto what time.
Remember the line from 'When Harry Met Sally' where Harry said that men and women can never be friends because sex always gets in the way – and it turned out to be true for him. But away from the movies and in the real world, how much truth is there in what he said? This what I will be trying to answer, so keep up with me for my next posts!

Old friends and old times

I just came back from Rascal House! The famous diner in Miami. And our favorite hang out place. After a lot of rain, finally the skies cleared up so my childhood friends and I got together and decided to go to finally meet.
Why do we love that place even though it's a bit pricey? Ya, you guessed it, the name describes us perfectly. There were a lot of people there and the lines were pretty long but we got through in the end. We didn't even that it was pretty long because we were having such a great time reminiscing about our past. We stayed there it seems like forever.
When we finally got our table, I ordered a Pastrami sandwich – my favorite among others at that place. All of my friends talked about how their first semester of college had been and which majors we're thinking of declaring. We're still not sure of what we want to do except for Jamie. She wanted to go into International Relations. She's already declared her major and was asked by the department head to take up honors. We were really excited for her. It's really cool.
Anyway, we decided to do a slumber party at my place for old time's sake – just us girls. Just like when we were in middle school and high school. So I'll be really busy with planning the party. We're thinking of a FRIENDS themed party where we'd watch the sitcom as marathon. Just like back in the days when we wait by the TV for a season premier or a new episode. Those were the fun days, and we're all hoping to relive it!

Velentine Day

Love makes the world go around - so it is said. And what better day to celebrate the feeling of love and passion than on Valentine's Day. Beating hearts, unspoken words and lingering glances... love is wonderful and being in love is the best thing that can happen to You !

Price Friendship

Quiet giggles in a cornerShared jokesLaughter and Yeats over a samosaBust-ups and making upThose were the days when anything wentAngry words soon forgottenInsults that never stuckFights and arguments the normBut the feelings remained the sameTime passedPeople changedWith it, the nature of friendshipWords became barbsLooks did killPatience and love, non-existant.This isn’t friendshipThis isn’t relationshipThis is nothing. And so,here we are today, askingwhat price friendship?

Hug with friends

We need 4 hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth... as the saying goes!Reaching out and touching someone, and holding him tight — is a way of saying you care. Its effects are immediate for both, as the hugger and the person being hugged, feel good. A hug is a spontaneous expression of affection and caring, specially between friends.Hugs are loaded with benefits. It helps our body's immune system, it keeps you healthier, it cures depression, it reduces stress, it induces sleep, it's invigorating, it's rejuvenating, it has no unpleasant side effects, and hugging is nothing less than a miracle drug. And it is the best friendship gift that one can have. Like I stated in my previous post that friendship can be a comforting hug. No words are need, when a friend is hugging you. Everything is said and understood when you stand in the circle of your friend's arms. I know it is not an easy habit, specially if you are not a very demonstrative person yourself, but I think that it is good to cultivate this kind of habit. You never know when you would need a hug!

Friendship and Love

Friendship and love - so much in common but yet so dissimilar! An eternal question that does the round is, What is the difference between friendship and love? Is platonic friendship possible between persons of opposite sex? Unfortunately, precise answers can’t be given. What is friendship and why do we call a person our friend is easily answered. The friendship is so deep and the relationship is so intimate, that most of the things are automatically understood by our friends. To love and to be loved is the greatest happiness in the world. Love is even stronger than fear and death. It is like a large box of chocolates - you take a chocolate but you never know what is inside. Sometimes, it is pleasant and tasty but it might just be the opposite too. Perhaps, love is just friendship plus physical closeness. Your heart will never beat in anticipation of meeting a friend. You will not lie awake at night thinking about your friend. You will not feel totally lost, if you don't meet your friend for a few days. You will not have dreams in your eyes thinking about your friend. But in love, you will do all this and much more. Indeed, maybe love is stronger than friendship! For some people there is only one step between love and friendship. There are some things that you can’t tell your beloved. You can share them only with your friends because they will support and advise you. In spite of everything, friendship takes an important place in our hearts and our lives will be just lost without it.So, with all said and done, there isn’t a definite distinction between love and friendship. Perhaps it doesn’t exist or maybe it is specific for each human being. I don’t know what kind of a relation exists between friendship and love exactly but I do know that they are the most exciting feelings in my life.

Friendship lesson from Harry Potter

Hello people it's almost that 'back to school' time again and summer vacation is almost over. I really had fun this time around hanging out with my friends and really enjoying their company. I just did this really cool quiz on Which Harry Potter character are you?

Pretty cool huh? I really liked the new movie for Harry Potter. In fact I love all the movies. I'm a big fan of Harry Potter because I think it they teach you a lot about friends. Friends really stick out for each other and are there for each other through thick and thin. Sometimes I feel out of this world facing my own monsters and problems but with friends I feel different because we can face it all together. It's less of a burden and more fun. At times you're having so much fun with your friends that you forget your troubles all together.

Stay closer with friends

The most blissful period in a woman’s life is when she’s a tween and has those precious BFs before adolescence pulls them apart.

What was my childhood

Childhood friends are forever! Examples of such friendships are galore where a childhood friend has forsaken everything for his friend. Such friendships never blossom as we mature and grow old. The friendship that develops between two friends in school or through living in the same locality, often goes on to become everlasting and is never broken by any outside force. I am still in touch with my childhood friend from school and she is like a pillar of support to me. She lives in a different city, but we keep in touch through phone, letter and email. She also makes it a point to come down at my place in holidays or during special occasions. The bond that forms between two childhood friends is unbreakable. Such friendships are intuitive, where one friend understands the mind of the other. Do you have a childhood friend who makes your life worth living? If yes, do share your friendship thoughts with me. Surprise your childhood friend with this warm friendship greeting!
